The Indian e-Business Visa is an electronic travel authorisation issued to foreign nationals who wish to visit India for short-term business activities. This visa category is specifically designed for individuals attending commercial engagements such as meetings, negotiations, trade events, and business development activities. It is not suitable for employment, long-term assignments, or hands-on operational work in India.

Permitted Commercial Activities

The e-Business Visa may be used for the following purposes:

  • Participating in technical or project-related meetings without performing hands-on work

  • Exploring opportunities to establish industrial or commercial ventures, including incorporation discussions

  • Recruiting staff or conducting interviews

  • Attending international exhibitions, trade fairs, and business conferences

  • Delivering lectures under approved programmes such as the Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN)

The visa does not permit paid employment, contract execution, or ongoing operational management within India.

Validity and Stay Conditions

Visa validity: Up to 365 days from the date the Electronic Travel Authorisation is granted

Permitted stay per visit:Varies by nationality and may be up to 180 days per entry

Note: If your cumulative stay in India exceeds 180 days in a calendar year, you are required to register with the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) within 14 days of crossing the limit.

If a single continuous stay exceeds 180 days, registration with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is required within the prescribed timeframe.

Required Supporting Documents

Applicants are typically required to upload the following documents during the application process:

Business Card

A clear digital copy of the applicant’s professional business card showing designation and employer details.

Invitation Letter

A formal invitation from the Indian host company on official letterhead, stating the purpose and duration of the visit.

Passport Scan

A high-quality colour scan of the passport bio-page. The passport must generally be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in India.

Additional documents may be requested depending on nationality or case-specific assessment.

Entry Conditions

Holders of an Indian e-Business Visa may enter India only through designated international airports and authorised seaports.

This visa is not valid for entry through land borders and cannot be used for long-term employment or salaried work with an Indian entity.
